Shirley Mantyla joined the OFRA board in 2017. She served as Secretary for three years before being elected Board Chair during the 2024 Annual General Meeting.
Born and raised in the Finnish community of Sudbury, Shirley grew up with Finnish traditions and speaking Finnish. Her deep connection to her heritage drives her ongoing commitment to supporting and volunteering in the Finnish community. Shirley is passionate about maintaining a cultural home for all seniors and ensuring that the aging Finnish population feels supported and valued.
In addition to her role at OFRA, Shirley serves as the Honorary Finnish Consul for the Algoma region.
In her free time, Shirley finds joy in nature, skiing, snowshoeing, and hiking through the woods to soak up what she calls “Vitamin N”. After a dose of vitamin N , Shirley loves to sit with a good cup of coffee and lose herself in a novel.
